Don Chepe's Restaurant is a Latin American dining spot firmly rooted in Coquitlam’s local scene, offering a slice of Salvadoran and broader Latin flavors just steps away from the nearby bowling alley. This is a place where casual dinners turn into lively evenings, especially for those drawn to authentic dishes and a soundtrack of reggaeton and Latin beats that fill the air.

The restaurant’s menu leans into traditional Central American comfort food, showcasing standout items such as Revuelta Pupusas—stuffed corn tortillas filled with combinations like cheese and chicharrón or cheese and ayote—and hearty plates like Mojarra Frita (crisply fried tilapia) and Carne Asada tacos. The Salvadorian breakfast options and soups like Sopa De Pata or Sopa de Res make it a flexible choice for different times of the day, whether you’re dropping in for a filling start or settling in for a relaxed dinner.

Visitors often come here craving well-made pupusas that are fresh and generously filled, alongside other staple Latin dishes that carry bold, authentic flavors. The portions are generous, delivered fairly quickly, and the flavor profiles stay true without leaning too far into fusion territory. The housemade hot sauce is a subtle highlight, adding just the right kick to many dishes.

The atmosphere is informal and inviting, with a friendly front-of-house team that knows the menu inside out and makes newcomers feel at ease. The presence of Latin music contributes to a warm vibe—ideal for catching up with friends over shared plates or grabbing a quick but flavorful bite before heading next door to a movie or a few rounds at the bowling alley.

Given the location, the restaurant shares bathroom facilities with the adjacent bowling alley, which may affect those looking for a more polished restroom experience. However, this doesn’t detract much from the overall relaxed and straightforward setting.

Don Chepe's serves well as a local go-to for anyone interested in robust Latin American flavors without the pretense—a place where diverse groups, including families and friends looking to share a variety of dishes, can enjoy a lively and genuine taste of Salvadoran cuisine. Early evenings, particularly on weekends, seem to bring out a buzz as groups gather to enjoy the casual ambiance paired with hearty food and refreshing Jarritos sodas or specialty drinks.

My friend found this place on Instagram and we went for it on a Sunday dinner. We really enjoyed the food and service. The four of us shared the Yuca Con Chicarron, one of us had the burrito and 3 of us ordered the steak (Carne Asada). Highly recommended. They played Latin music, reggaeton, etc. Great atmosphere. We will come back again.

Best place ever! Being Indian, I can confidently say that no one can beat their pupusas. The taste is absolutely amazing, fresh, and full of flavor. The quality of food is excellent, and you can really feel the care put into every dish. The service is friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. I will definitely keep coming back and highly recommend this place to everyone who loves good food.

Definitely a nice dinner option in the area. We enjoyed our meals and drinks. Food came quickly, with big authentic flavours. The restaurant backs off of the bowling alley and the bathrooms are shared, located in the bowling alley. They were not clean to say the least but no fault of the restaurant.

New spot just opened in Coquitlam!!! Awesome place to grab a drink and some tacos before catching a movie or hitting the bowling alley. The vibe is super chill, the staff is friendly, and the food really hits the spot. Their house-made hot sauce gives everything a delicious little kick, definitely worth a try!

A great local spot for pupusas! We ordered Zucchini Pupusas, Birria Tacos (pictured) and Asada Tacos (which arrived later - these weren’t great). We were disappointed that they were out of Horchata and Lengua, but the service is very friendly and it has a nice vibe.

If you’re craving El Salvadorian food, you absolutely must check out Don Chepe for some top recommendations. The service there is truly exceptional and the food outstanding. Honestly, I had the best pupusa I’ve ever had—flavourful, fresh, and cooked to perfection. You won’t be disappointed! Give it a try, you deserve something special.
